Have you come across with this name - Tanjung Karang? It's a small and idyllic fishing and agricultural village which located at north of Kuala Selangor, Malaysia (15km away from Selangor). It's sometimes called as Tanjong Karang and called as Cape of Corals in English. This place is started by Javanese people and now living by most Malay and Chinese population. The local Chinese live in urban area and mostly focus on fishing career while Malay are mostly live in the rural area which work toward the agricultural part.
What is Tanjung Karang Famous for?
1. Paddy field
- Tanjung Karang is famous with its rice farming agricultural. There are huge range of paddy field covered the entire rural area. The spectacular paddy field drawn Tanjung Karang into a beautiful landscape.

2. Freshest Seafood
- There are lots of people came Tanjung Karang especially for the freshest seafood that catch by the fisherman and sold directly at the jetty. The seafood and mostly fishes and prawns are catch and bring back by the fishing boats. The fisherman are then sorting out the variety of their harvests in front of the customer crowd and then selling it straightaway at the jetty.
3. The Ambeng Rice
- The Ambeng Rice or called Nasi Ambeng in Malay is the famous cultural food in Tanjung Karang that left by the Javanese. The Ambeng Rice are served in large portion and it consists of large component of white rice and served with side dishes. The side dishes are fried chicken or chicken cook with red sauce or soya sauce, pan-fried coconut floss, vegetables, dried fish, and fried noodles or vermicelli. All this side dishes and white rice are served on a huge banana leaf. It is normally can fit to 4 or 5 people per portion of Ambeng Rice.
4. Homestay
- There are no hotel and resort in Tanjung Karang. But there are lots of homestay around the entire living areas. Every homestay got its specialty and the aim for letting peoples especially for those city generation and foreign to experience the rural and traditional living lifestyle.
